MONGOLIAN OIL DEPOSITS AND BASINS

Across the vast territory of Mongolia the potential oil deposits and basins are spread in 300 thousand square kilometer.

UMNUGOBI BASIN is rich with oil producing organic agents and shale. Moreover in the sand dune Early Cretaceous age sedimentary rock is abundant and geological characteristics indicate the possibility of rich oil reserve in the region. Further detailed geological and seismic studies need to be conducted to identify the potential land plots for well drilling.

EAST MONGOLIA BASINS

The direct extension of the Khailar depression of People”s Republic of China, the Choibalsan oil basin contains all possible geological characteristics of oil basin within. Other details show that the possibility of tar and bitumen reserves can be found in the region.

CENTRAL MONGOLIAN BASINS

In Nyalga basin there is 1.5 million ton tar reserve. During the geological studies conducted in 1950-1960, geologists found oil shows after making a shallow drill in the region. The experts estimate there could be an oil basin with reserve of 1 billion barrel of oil. Where as in Dornogobi basin, the geologists estimate several oil basins with combined recoverable oil reserve up to 0.2 billion barrel.
